Fitness Classes

Punch cards can be purchased at the front desk and can be used for ANY BSAC fitness class.
Classes are ongoing. Punchcard of 11 classes: $45 for members. If you wish to pay for an individual class, the cost is $5.00

EnhanceFitness

EnhanceFitness is an evidence-based class developed by experts in physical therapy and exercise physiology which includes aerobic activity, strength training, and flexibility and balance exercises. The class is interactive and filled with variety, allowing you to work at your own pace following the best choice for you as offered by your instructor.

Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays, 9:30 – 10:30am

Open Gym

Membership to the BSAC is required to participate in the Fitness room. You must complete the Strength Training Class, and have your Physician complete the Physicians Authorization Form. You also must Sign the Consent and Liability Release Form.

Open gym is 8am-4:30pm, Monday – Friday.

Suggested donation $2.00/day for members.

Zumba

Zumba Gold is for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves at a lower intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion, and coordination.

Longevity Stick

The “Longevity Stick” regime incorporates a series of 12 movements designed to improve balance, flexibility, strength, mental focus, breathing capacity, and vitality. This activity is a low-impact exercise done while standing, using a long, one-inch diameter dowel (or stick), that reduces the risk of injury while improving circulation and balance. This class is FREE for members and drop-ins are welcome!

Yoga

The Iyengar style yoga emphasizes the devolvement of strength, stamina, flexibility, balance and mental concentration. This is accomplished by practicing poses that engage specific areas of the body with a focus on physical alignment and breathing.

Strength Training 101

The best way to combat the loss of strength as we age is through systematic weight lifting. BSAC is uniquely positioned to offer a scientifically based strength training course. An initial lecture provides scientific underpinnings of how muscle changes with age and how strength training effects the neuromuscular and muscle fibers to reverse the trend. This is followed by 7 one hour classes. Those who complete the course, lift independently, develop their own training regime, have received individualized instruction proper lifting technique on each machine. Prerequisites for the course include: active BSAC membership, current medical clearance (See button to the left for form), fee of $60+tax.  Registration for the class is at the front desk of BSAC.

Wednesdays, 1:30pm, Auditorium or outside if weather permits

Chair Yoga

Practiced sitting on a chair, or
standing using a chair for support. The poses are often adaptations of postures in modern yoga. Great for those who are unable to get up and down from the floor or rehabbing from an injury.

Tues & Thurs, 8:30 – 9:30am, no charge, drop-in.
