Fitness Classes

Punch cards can be purchased at the front desk and can be used for ANY BSAC fitness class.
Classes are ongoing. Punchcard of 10 classes: $45 for members. If you wish to pay for an individual class, the cost is $5.00


EnhanceFitness is an evidence-based class developed by experts in physical therapy and exercise physiology which includes aerobic activity, strength training, and flexibility and balance exercises. The class is interactive and filled with variety, allowing you to work at your own pace following the best choice for you as offered by your instructor.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30am-10:30am, Auditorium.

Open Gym

Membership to the BSAC is required to participate in the Fitness room. You must complete the Strength Training Class, and have your Physician complete the Physicians Authorization Form. You also must Sign the Consent and Liability Release Form.

Open gym is 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, and 9:00am to 1:00pm on Saturdays. Donatation $1.00/day for members.


Zumba Gold is for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves at a lower intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion, and coordination. Instructed by Christina Winkler.

Longevity Stick

The “Longevity Stick” regime incorporates a series of 12 movements designed to improve balance, flexibility, strength, mental focus, breathing capacity, and vitality. This activity is a low-impact exercise done while standing, using a long, one-inch diameter dowel (or stick), that reduces the risk of injury while improving circulation and balance. This class is FREE for members and drop-ins are welcome!

Tuesday & Thursday, 8:15-9:30am in the Garden. Please sign-in in the lobby before class.

 & WeYoga (Iyengar)

The Iyengar style yoga emphasizes the devolvement of strength, stamina, flexibility, balance and mental concentration. This is accomplished by practicing poses that engage specific areas of the body with a focus on physical alignment and breathing.

Strength Training 101

The best way to combat the loss of strength as we age is through systematic weight lifting. BSAC is uniquely positioned to offer a scientifically based and strength training with Dr. Elaine Cress, an exercise physiologist and gerontologist. In an initial lecture she provides scientific underpinnings of how muscle changes with age and how strength training effects the neuromuscular and muscle fibers to reverse the trend. This is followed by 2 classes / week (1.5 hours each) for 4 weeks. Those who complete the course, lift independently, develop their own training regime, have received individualized instruction proper lifting technique on each machine. Prerequisites for the course include: active BSAC membership, current medical clearance (See button to the left for form), fee of $60.  Registration for the class is at the front desk of BSAC. 

Tai Chi

The Five Treasures
The Five Treasures QiGong is a beautiful and harmonizing practice set that was created by the National QiGong Association as an introduction to the healing art of energy cultivation. The movements are simple and can be easily modified to fit individual circumstances.

First Saturday of each month, 10:00-11:00am. Pay at the Front Desk during the week

Tai Chi QiGong
This lovely set is a whole body exercise (created in 1981 for patients leaving Shanghai Hospital as a life-long wellness practice) and is perfect and complete on its own or as an introduction or enhancement to Tai Chi because it involves the key principles of weight shifting, mindfulness, and coordination of movement and breath, etc. We will also practice Tai Chi walking, a slow and meditative walk that is very helpful for both balance and posture. With regular practice, benefits include balancing mind and body, improvement in strength, flexibility, balance, mood and more. It is suitable for all abilities and can be performed either seated or standing.

Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00pm.
