Meals and Wheels and More

Meals and Wheels and More supports the health and independence of the older adult populations of Whatcom and San Juan Counties by providing nutritious food, social connection, and nutrition education.

Through our Meals on Wheels and Community Meals programs we provide 2000+ seniors throughout Whatcom and San Juan Counties with more than 190,000 nutritious meals each year!

Every meal we provide meets at least one third of a senior’s daily nutritional requirements.

Seniors are at increased risk for malnutrition for multiple reasons including:

  • Chronic or acute illnesses
  • Decreased ability to shop for and to prepare healthy meals
  • Depression
  • Lack of funds

It is our goal to ensure that all Whatcom and San Juan seniors have access to the nutrition they need to remain healthy and independent in their homes as long as possible.

What's Next: Housing Options as We Age

What’s Next: Housing Options as We Age is an opportunity to discuss and answer questions about housing for older adults in our community. Whatcom County offers a wide-range of housing options from shared-housing and in-home attendants, to adult family homes, rehabilitation, and independent and assisted living facilities.

This event aims to assist individuals in making informed decisions that work for them, and to help families talk with their loved ones about viable housing options.  Thus the event is geared toward older adults looking at their housing options, as well as individuals seeking options for their parents.

Throughout the event we will be hosting various presentations on housing options in the community as well as options that help us age in place. In addition to presentations, we will be filling our lobby with vendor tables of various organizations and services in the community to provide information on housing options and resources available to folks to help them age in place or transition to a new home
